Victimhood over Statehood
The Master’s column this week discusses the Gaza beach explosion. The Master explains that the Palestinians prefer victimhood over statehood. It is the major theme in Palestinian history. The Master explains,
the Palestinians prefer victimhood to statehood. They have demonstrated that for 60 years, beginning with their rejection of the United Nations decision to establish a Palestinian state in 1947 because it would have also created a small Jewish state next door. They declared war instead.
Half a century later, at the Camp David summit with President Bill Clinton, Israel renewed the offer of a Palestinian state -- with its capital in Jerusalem, with not a single Jewish settler remaining in Palestine, and on a contiguous territory encompassing 95 percent of the West Bank (Israel making up the other 5 percent with pieces of Israel proper).
The Palestinian answer? War again -- Yasser Arafat's terror war, aka the second intifada, which killed a thousand Jews.
The Master must have read my post. I’m honored. If the Palestinians want to know who to blame for that explosion, they need not look far. If they really want the killing to stop, they should stop firing rockets into Israel. It’s that simple.
Really, what argument do they have against Israel? They wanted a Palestinian State free of Israeli occupation. Israel has given them that in Gaza, and is in the process of doing that in the West Bank. But the Palestinians are only complicating the issue by continuing to launch terrorist attacks against Israel. They launch rockets into Israeli towns (which, by the way, exist within Israel’s pre-1967 borders) in an effort to kill Israeli civilians, and when Israel retaliates (which is their right, and their obligation) the Palestinians complain about an Israeli genocide. Genocide? The victims of that explosion were treated in Israeli hospitals.
The Palestinians shouldn’t use the word “genocide” quite so loosely. You see, the Israelis know a thing or two about genocide. Or have we forgotten the reason the Jewish State was established in the first place? While the Palestinians celebrate their self-made martyrs, the Jews know first hand what it means to be killed because of your faith. They have faced oppression and holocaust, and now they face not simply state-sponsored terrorism, but a state made up of terrorists.
