Demanding Change, Palestinians Vote for more Terrorism
The final results of yesterday’s elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip won’t be announced until late today, but according to the exit polls, Hamas has made a big showing.
This, of course, does not bode well for the peace process. Hamas is a terrorist organization which has murdered countless Israelis and still calls for the destruction of Israel. There is no way Israel or the United States could negotiate with such an organization. Both nations have already made it clear they will not negotiate with a Palestinian government that includes Hamas.
Knowing this, why did the Palestinians show so much support for Hamas? The obvious answer is that the Palestinians don’t want peace with Israel. But, the FOX News article gave another reason. Hamas ran on a platform of reform and clean government. This should give you an idea of how screwed up the Palestinian Authority is. Apparently, the ruling Fatah party (founded by Yasser Arafat) is so corrupt that they make even terrorists seem respectable.
Of course, there is no real difference between Hamas and Fatah. The militant wing of Fatah, called the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, is also responsible for murdering Israeli citizens. These crimes are often done with the support of the so-called “peace-making” Fatah leaders. But Hamas has been more violent than Fatah, so their success in this election indicates that the Palestinians want more terrorism, not less. So much for the Palestinians being a reliable peace partner.
There is one funny thing about this article:
Polls closed on Wednesday after 12 hours of voting at 7 p.m. (12 p.m. EST). Under a compromise with Israel, some Arabs in east Jerusalem were allowed to cast absentee ballots at post offices in the disputed city, and voting was extended there by two hours because postal workers were slow.
And you thought the 2000 election was bad. Imagine if we had to vote at the post office.
