Do they Really Want Peace at All?
On Friday, The Master asked in his weekly column,
Is this what the Bush administration wants? More unilateral concessions to an implacable enemy whose "moderate" leader, Mahmoud Abbas, declares that "we will not rest until they leave from all our land" -- when Palestinian maps show "our land" as nothing less than all of British Palestine with Israel totally eradicated?
Indeed, when the shadowy leader of Hamas, the Palestinian militant organization that Mahmoud Abbas considers a legitimate political party, states in a videotaped message released Saturday that, “We did not achieve the liberation of the Gaza Strip without this holy war and this steadfastness,” and as the AP notes in the same article, “Israel's obliteration is Hamas’ ultimate goal,” one must wonder if the Palestinians really want peace.
Texian Weblog has said four different times since January that since Israel has made all the concessions it can make in an attempt to achieve peace with the Palestinians, the ball is now in the Palestinians’ court. But the Palestinians have not done anything to reciprocate. In fact, just yesterday yet another Palestinian bomber attacked Jewish civilians. This attack happened in an area along the Israeli border that is not yet protected by the security wall. Abbas, of course, condemns the attack, but his actions do not seem to back up his words. How can you condemn terrorism, and still consider a terrorist organization bent on the destruction of Israel a legitimate political party?
Do not think that antisemitism is a disease caught only by Palestinians. In Iraq, Sunnis today are protesting the proposed constitution. One Sunni leader called the document a, “Jewish constitution.” The article says,
Ibrahim al-Shammari, spokesman of a leading insurgent group, the Islamic Army in Iraq, said on Al-Jazeera television that the constitution "drafted under the supervision of the occupiers" would divide Iraq and benefit Israel.
The division he refers to is nothing more than federalism.
Look at a map of the Middle East and you will see the vast swaths of land owned by Arabs and surrounding the tiny speck we call Israel. Considering the vulnerability of Israel, why should she give up any of her land (land she occupies after pushing back previous Arab invasions) to the very people that still seek her destruction? The Master says,
This is a prescription for Israel's suicide. Or rather murder, because the Israelis are not prepared to march blindly into further unrequited concessions. The final concession will be getting into boats and sailing back to where?
Poland?
God forbid.
