That’s a Novel Idea

I meant to do a post on this story over the weekend, but I didn’t have the time. Anyway, here it is, only a day late (weekends don’t count in the news cycle).

The EPA has been around for quite a while, but if President Bush’s new appointee to head the agency is confirmed, he will be the first real scientist to hold that position. I found that rather interesting, considering the EPA has spent the last several decades telling us what is and what isn’t good for the environment. Yet, all this time, the EPA chief has been picked for political, not scientific, reasons. In other words, all of the previous EPA heads were no more knowledgeable on environmental science than you or me, yet they were OK with enforcing restrictive regulations on American businesses. Would you feel comfortable with an Attorney General who has no training in law, or a Defense Secretary who doesn’t know a trench from a hole in the ground? I just find it a little funny that it took a man the Liberals dubbed the “Toxic Texan” to appoint an EPA chief who actually knows something about the environment.
