The Master Speaks - the Palestinians
After weeks of thinking about it, I finally decided to bite the bullet and register with the Washington Post so that I can read Krauthammer’s column. This of course meant that I would have to give the WaPo my email address, home address, et cetera; hence my reluctance. I know, I could have given them a fake home address and they never would have known the difference. But that just seems a little dishonest to me. They produce a product that they’re willing to give to me for free and all I have to do is give them my address. Seems like a good deal to me. I have given a fake address online only once, and that was when I set up the stupiddemocrat@yahoo.com account to receive emails from the DNC. That time I gave my address as 601 University Dr., San Marcos, TX 78666, which is the address for the administration building at Texas State University. Oops, I hope Yahoo! doesn’t read this, they might cancel my account. I registered with the DNC using the same address and I gave my name as first name “Stupid” last name “Democrat”. It’s a lot of fun to receive emails from the DNC that begin with “Dear Stupid.”
Anyway, I finally registered with the WaPo, so now every Friday I get to read the Master’s column. I wanted to bring to your attention the
column he wrote a couple of weeks ago regarding the Palestinians. Hopefully this link will take you straight there without having to register. It was an excellent piece. The gist of it was the Palestinians are only talking peace now because Sharon has made it clear that the intifada would not help them achieve their goals. While Sharon was criticized in the West for being too tough on the Palestinians, he was gaining respect with the Palestinians because of his toughness. Up to this point, the Palestinians have been demanding “land for peace.” In other words, if Israel gives up land, the Palestinians will stop sending suicide bombers. But that tactic didn’t work with Sharon. When the Palestinians sent suicide bombers, Sharon sent real bombers, as in the type that will blow up your house and everyone in it. Here’s a great line from the Master: “What do the Palestinians now demand from Israel in return for a cease-fire? That Sharon stop hunting down and killing terrorist leaders. Not land for peace. Peace for peace.” And that is the difference. That’s why we think Sharon will have more success in establishing a lasting peace than his predecessors. Once again, Krauthammer is right.
