The New Iraqi Government
There has also been one other attempt to deny victory to President Bush by the Dems, they’ll ask, “what if the Iraqis choose their new government and it is an Islamic theocracy?” Well, as far as I’m concerned, as long as the government is democratic, protects minority rights, and doesn’t support terrorism it’s OK if it is theocratic. And yes, it is possible to have a democratic theocracy. I sometimes think we should have one (I’ll get some letters for that one, I’m sure). During the election, when it looked almost like John F’n Kerry was going to win, I thought, “you know, it wouldn’t be all bad if we just have the State Legislatures elect a Christian King.”

Here’s the point: a good government is one that defends the Natural Rights of the citizens and upholds Natural Law. The people should decide what form of government they think would be best at achieving that goal. If the people of Iraq think a theocracy is best, then who are we to tell them they are wrong. As long as the government defends the Natural Rights and upholds Natural Law, then the Texian Party has no problem with it.
Most likely, the new Iraqi government will be a Liberal Federal Republic. American diplomats will see to it that the Iraqi government will protect minority rights. Iraq is too diverse to have a centralized government, so home rule will have to be incorporated. The new government will probably have to redraw the provincial lines to try to group the various races together. Certainly, the Kurds and the Shi’ites will want their own States where they can control their domestic affairs. When the Iraqis are trying to work out the form of their new government, they should listen to what Thomas Jefferson has to say:
“To make us one nation as to foreign concerns, and keep us distinct in domestic ones, gives the outline of the proper division of powers between the general and particular governments.”
Actually, even us Americans should listen to what TJ has to say.
