Iraqi Elections II
The first seed of a democratic and free Iraq was planted yesterday by the Iraqi people themselves. As we await the results of Iraq’s first free elections in decades, we can sit back and marvel at the advancing march of liberty and self-rule.

Well, most of us, anyway. Turns out Senator and losing Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry believes that this is nothing to celebrate. Kerry hasn’t forgotten his doom and gloom campaign strategy. I still can’t believe this guy carried New Hampshire. Not willing to let his victorious opponent steal any of the spotlight, John Kerry found the closest TV camera available (or maybe it found him) to say that the Iraqi election is no victory. Kerry said on Meet the Press, “But ... no one in the United States should try to overhype this election.” And “what really counts now is the effort to have a legitimate political reconciliation.”
Now, no one is saying that the hard work is over in Iraq, but certainly this is something to celebrate. It’s not everyday that a newly liberated nation has free and open elections. Kerry’s statements are an attempt by the Senator and other Democrats to deny President Bush any victory.
We should all celebrate Iraq’s new freedom.
